My name is Jesabel (not to be confused with Isabel) and I'm 7 years old. I have brown hair, brown eyes and Caucasian skin. I have a very strange girl for a best friend. One, her name is Manolita (a very strange name), but I call her Lita. Two, she always dyes her hair purple, although it goes well with her black skin. Three, she always wears red or green sportswear, even though she never works out. Four, she doesn't have a daddy, but she has two mommies. Five, and finally, she's obsessed with magic rituals, and she takes me all over town to do them. Our town is called Ani.
That's why I'm standing at the entrance to my school in the middle of the night. The moon is full tonight.
"Jesabel? Jes, over here!"
I hear Lita's voice calling me. As I call her Lita, she tends to call me Jes. I go to find her and she looks at me funny.
"What?" I asked Lita. "You didn't expect me to come?"
"No, but what's with the outfit? It's like a school uniform!"
"Really?"
I'm wearing a long black dungaree skirt and a white shirt.
"Anyway," says Lita, "let's go to the school library. It's the perfect place to do the ritual."
I ask her if it's an invocation ritual.
"Yes. If all goes well, we'll meet a witch!"
"COOL!"
We go to the library and Lita opens her backpack. Inside, there is a big book, candles and matches. She explains to me that we must light the candles and read the book's incantation.
"It's too easy!" I tell her, while lighting the candles.
We recite the incantation together. The candles go out, the ground begins to shake for a minute and, in a cloud of smoke, a red-haired woman appears. She has a witch’s hat and a broom.
"It's the witch!" I exclaim.
"YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Lita screams. "IT WORKED!"
Lita clears her throat and tells the witch that she must obey her, since Lita has summoned her. The woman laughs.
"Me, obey a kid and a girl on top of that?" she tells us. "Not on your life!"
"But... but...", says Lita hesitantly, "the book said that the invoked being must obey--"
"These are nonsense. I am Shirina and I don't obey anyone! It's rather YOU who will obey me! Send me back to my world NOW!"
I see that Lita is very nervous. Her forehead is all wet. She tells the witch that she doesn't know how to send her back to her world.
"WHAT?!" I tell her. "What do you mean, you don't know how?"
"The book never said anything about that!"
"FOOLS!" yells Shirina. "Your world will suffer my anger!"
Shirina pronounces a magic spell and a thick fog appears in the library. Before disappearing while laughing, she tells us that this fog will spread everywhere and it will prevent the sun from rising. I scream to Lita that she must find a solution and quickly!
"Don't yell at me!" says Lita. "I have an idea. I'm going to summon a Seimoya."
"A what?"
"A kind of protective spirit. I read about it in a novel. He will be able to fight Shirina or send her home. Seirei + umoya = Seimoya!"
"O…k… and how does this summon work?"
"I have to find the ingredients: incense, frog saliva, blue candles and drops of pure water, and then say the Seimoya incantation."
"Let's not waste any time! Time to find the ingredients!"
1 hour later…
We found all the ingredients and Lita tells me that she is ready to invoke the Seimoya.
"Before I begin, Jes, I need to warn you. The spirit will possess me, but you mustn't worry. The Seimoya are good spirits. You just have to tell it to take care of Shirina and everything will be over!"
"Ok, but how will it leave your body afterwards?"
"In the summoning ritual, I will give it the option to leave me as soon as Shirina has returned to her world or has been defeated in combat. OK! here I go!"
Lita summons the Seimoya... and the unexpected happens.
- Change of point of view. -
- From Jes to Lita. –
In front of me stands another Jes.
A white-haired Jes with skin as white as chalk and with a blue and icy gaze.
Oh oh, I hadn't expected that!
"This body... is female... and young..." says the spirit with Jes' voice. "How is it possible? Each host body must change to match the gender of the Seimoya it's carrying. I am male, so why--?"
Suddenly, he notices me.
"You..." he tells me. "Who is this host? She's not a Seimoyan, correct?"
"Uh... Her name is Jesabel, and no, she's not a Seimoyan." (Seimoya + shaman. Beings who can summon them.)
"Very strange…"
"Uh... you can go back where you come from as soon as Shirina is--"
"Shirina? She's a Moesin?"
"A what? No, she's a witch."
"And... I have to defeat her, right?"
"Yes... or you bring her back to her world."
"I cannot travel between worlds or bring other people back to theirs. Good. I will defeat this Shirina. I hope for you she's not a weakling."
Before I can ask him what he means by that, he goes to look for Shirina.
I follow him and the Seimoya finds Shirina flying on her broom. He immediately materializes blades of ice that he throws on the witch's broom. At the contact of the ice, the broom freezes and Shirina plunges to the ground, uttering a cry of surprise. She disappears as the Seimoya attacks with frost to reappear before him.
"How dare you attack me, stupid childish girl?!"
The frozen broom crashes to the ground and breaks in pieces.
"Don't call me a kid and I'm no girl! I am Virgil, a male Ice Seimoya."
"A 'Seimoya'? One of those kind protective spirits, I presume? In my world, we call them--"
"You are wrong. The Moesin are the good spirits. We, the Seimoya, are evil to the core!"
I don't understand. The novel said that the Seimoya were good spirits, not the bad guys. Also, what is an Moesin, exactly?
(Moesin = Moea + jeongsin. Good spirits and the opposite of Seimoya.)
"Really?" Shirina says. "Well, I'm like you. I cause trouble and hurt people just for fun."
"Enough talk! Fight me!"
"Why? We are both evil. We could take over this world together!"
Virgil remains silent for a minute, then whispers "no" and, with one attack, turns Shirina into an ice statue. He then makes his sword appear - Or is it a katana? I don't know. - and he breaks her into pieces. The soil is dyed red, Shirina's pieces disappear with the fog, and the Seimoya turns to me.
"She really was a weakling. I knew it."
He walks towards me, his sword in his hand.
"You know I could kill you, right? Yes, killing you, for wasting my time! I REALLY want to but... I prefer returning to my world. You should feel very lucky, and one last thing: never ever summon me again!"
Virgil concentrates and Jes' body regains her former appearance. Like she's out of a dream, she asks me what she is doing there, and why is the ground red?
- Change of point of view. -
- From Lita to Jes. –
Lita told me everything as we watched the sun rise. I am glad the fog is gone, but angry because I had been possessed by an evil spirit. I also, technically, killed Shirina, which makes me a murderer.
"Come on Jes," Lita tells me. "Nobody will know what happened, and you aren't a murderer."
"Easy for you to say! If you want us to remain friends, no more magic rituals!"
"What? But--"
"LITA THERE IS NO BUT!"
Lita pouted and I go home. I'm still angry and I do not want to talk to her.
2 days later...
I am in my bedroom. Someone knocks at my window. Thinking it's Lita, still wanting to take me somewhere for one of her rituals, I open my window and I am about to give her a piece of my mind when the surprise paralyzes me. It's Lita, but it's not Lita.
A white-haired boy version of Lita, with paler skin...
"V…Vi…Virgil… Wha--?"
"Your friend has messed up again! She summoned creatures from Shirina's world and then she called me to clean everything up!"
"Uuuuuhhh… O…k…?"
"She could have called upon a Moesin for help but, nope, Virgil's got to do it. Anyway, I just came to warn you. If ‘something’ comes, run away!"
He leaves, leaving me alone. I cover my eyes with my hand and I shout with anger Manolita's name.
